The batteries also have a very low self-discharge rate, meaning that you can use the drill at any time, straight from storage.
The charger and battery communicate throughout the charging process through the use of in-built chips in the batteries. The charger can monitor the voltage being fed to the battery to prevent overcharging and prolonging the life of the battery. An audio warning signal will tell you exactly when the battery has finished charging.
